OpenAI Codex on ChatGPT Mobile: Code Anywhere, Anytime

OpenAI has integrated its AI coding assistant, Codex, into the ChatGPT mobile app for both iOS and Android users. This means developers can now monitor, manage, and approve coding tasks remotely using their smartphones. The feature is rolling out in preview mode across all ChatGPT plans, including Free and Go, in supported regions. Users can connect the mobile app to machines running Codex, like laptops and devboxes, and get live project updates on the go. The mobile interface lets users review outputs, approve commands, switch AI models, and start new coding tasks without needing a desktop. Real-time updates, such as screenshots and test results, sync to the mobile app, while files and permissions stay on the connected machine. OpenAI states over 4 million users are now using Codex weekly. Remote SSH support and hooks are now generally available across all plans. Programmatic access tokens have been introduced for Enterprise and Business users. HIPAA-compliant use of Codex in local environments will also be supported for eligible ChatGPT Enterprise workspaces. Support for Windows systems is coming soon. This development gives developers more flexibility and control over their coding projects from anywhere.
