OpenAI Fast-Tracks AI Phone Launch for 2027 Production

OpenAI is fast-tracking the launch of its first AI agent phone, aiming for mass production as early as the first half of 2027. Industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo says this development is a shift from earlier reports that OpenAI had no plans for a smartphone. MediaTek and Qualcomm are set to provide chips, while Luxshare Precision will handle manufacturing. Kuo believes the phone's success is crucial for OpenAI’s planned IPO, as a strong hardware product could attract investors. The device will feature advanced image processing and utilize two AI processors for different functions. Kuo predicts that if all goes well, shipments could hit around 30 million units in 2027 and 2028.
