OpenAI has launched a new personal finance tool for ChatGPT Pro subscribers in the U.S. This feature allows users to connect their bank accounts, brokerage accounts, and credit cards directly to the chatbot. What's interesting is that over 12,000 institutions are supported, including Chase, Fidelity, and American Express. Once linked, ChatGPT creates a dashboard showing spending patterns, subscriptions, and portfolio performance. Users can ask questions about their spending or get help planning for goals like buying a house. The system uses OpenAI's GPT-5.5 model, which is strong at reasoning with context. This tool comes after OpenAI acquired the team behind personal finance startup Hiro. The company emphasizes this is for guidance, not professional financial advice. Privacy controls are included, allowing users to disconnect accounts and have data deleted within 30 days. This feature is currently limited to ChatGPT Pro subscribers paying $100 per month and is available on web and iOS. OpenAI plans to expand it to the Plus tier later. This could change how many people manage their personal finances.
