OpenAI Retires ChatGPT-4.5: Users React to Model Changes

OpenAI is retiring its GPT-4.5 model from ChatGPT. This decision is part of an effort to reallocate computing power and engineering focus. Another model, OpenAI o3, will also be retired from the interface on August 26, 2026. Paid subscribers can still access these models until their final deprecation dates. These changes only affect ChatGPT's consumer applications, not the developer API. The news has caused some backlash among users. Many considered GPT-4.5 to be an excellent writing model due to its ability to handle subtle linguistic cues and creative formatting. They feel newer models, while better technically, lack the same "creative EQ." This means some users might find their preferred creative tools changing.
