OpenAI Retires DALL-E from ChatGPT: What You Need to Know

OpenAI is retiring DALL-E image generation from ChatGPT. The DALL-E GPT interface will be fully retired on August 30. Users have about 30 days to download any saved images before the switch to a new feature called ChatGPT Images. What's changing is the dedicated DALL-E GPT tool within ChatGPT is being removed. Users must download their images before the August 30 deadline. The replacement, ChatGPT Images, runs on OpenAI's newer gpt-image-1 and gpt-image-1-mini models. These models were first introduced in November 2025. OpenAI has been moving users towards them since December 2025. User-created GPTs with image generation will continue to work.
