OpenAI: US Govt to Review New ChatGPT Models Pre-Release

OpenAI will voluntarily comply with President Donald Trump's new AI executive order. This order requests access to the latest AI models 30 days before their release. It does not, however, require companies to submit these models. What's interesting is that the executive order was initially drafted to require a 90-day submission period. But, public pushback led to changes in the final version. OpenAI plans to submit its next-generation AI models to a benchmarking process. This process will assess the advanced cyber capabilities of these models. It will also help determine when an AI model should be designated a "covered frontier model." An OpenAI executive stated that the company has proactively suggested ways for governments to track AI safety and security issues, not just in the US, but more broadly. This development could impact how new AI technologies are introduced to the public.
