OpenAI vs. Apple: "Baseless" Trade Secrets Lawsuit?

OpenAI has asked a judge to dismiss Apple's trade secret lawsuit, calling it baseless. OpenAI filed a 31-page motion arguing that Apple failed to sufficiently describe its claimed trade secrets and did not show plausible misappropriation. The company states Apple should not use this lawsuit to compensate for its market shortcomings and its failures to integrate AI into its products. OpenAI also challenged Apple's account of the facts, citing Apple's review of employee iMessages and its directive for staff to use personal iCloud accounts for work. OpenAI claims it has no need for Apple's trade secrets, as it is building something entirely new. Apple's complaint, filed last month, accused former employees of taking confidential information and alleged OpenAI used its recruiting process to extract trade secrets. The lawsuit names OpenAI, its subsidiary io Products, and two former Apple employees. Apple claims over 400 Apple alumni now work at OpenAI. Earlier this week, Apple requested a preliminary injunction to prevent OpenAI from using the alleged trade secrets. OpenAI called this request "based on false information and completely unnecessary." This case highlights the competition between the two companies in AI hardware. The outcome could reveal internal information on recruitment and data security from both companies.
