OpenAI vs. Apple: Trade Secrets Case Takes New Turn

OpenAI is countering Apple's trade secrets lawsuit with internal evidence. Apple previously accused OpenAI of stealing confidential data and hardware processes. OpenAI, in a blog post, called the lawsuit aggressive and personal. What's interesting is Apple admitted errors in its legal claims. For example, Apple's lawyers emailed the wrong person due to confusing two Asian last names. Apple also admitted a claimed discussion with OpenAI's General Counsel never happened. Regarding a former employee, Apple accused Chang Liu of accessing confidential information after leaving. But OpenAI's messages show Apple employees asked Liu to locate files after his departure. Apple now shifts blame to "residual access," which OpenAI says is a common internal issue due to Apple's system management. OpenAI states they would have clarified these issues if Apple had raised them before filing the lawsuit. OpenAI also says Apple's request for a preliminary injunction is based on false information and is unnecessary because they do not have or want Apple's trade secrets. This ongoing dispute highlights the complexities of intellectual property in the tech industry.
