OpenAI's "5.6" AI Model: Outperforming GPT-5.5 in June

OpenAI plans to release a new AI model in June. This new model is codenamed "5.6" and is expected to outperform their current flagship, GPT-5.5. OpenAI's chief scientist, Jakub Pachocki, stated in a message to staff that model 5.6 offers "meaningful improvements." What's interesting is this comes as competition in AI intensifies. Anthropic also launched a public version called "Claude Fable 5" on June 9th. Fable 5 performs well in areas like software engineering and knowledge work. However, it blocks responses in high-risk areas such as cybersecurity and chemistry, switching to Claude Opus 4.8 for those. Anthropic's Mythos model, which Fable 5 is based on, was initially limited due to concerns about its impact on cybersecurity. The bottom line is that both OpenAI and Anthropic are pushing new, advanced AI models, which could change how these technologies are used.
