OpenAI's ChatGPT: AI Agents Take Over Your Computer

OpenAI is moving closer to its long-held goal of building AI agents that can use a computer and web browser like a human. The company now has enough confidence in its technology to roll out "Computer Use" tools to customers. This year, OpenAI launched a Chrome extension for ChatGPT, created cloud and in-app browsers, and added Computer Use to its Codex coding tool. This technology also allows ChatGPT to complete tasks in other applications. OpenAI's president stated an April update made the tech useful for anyone doing computer work, not just coders. Rival company Anthropic also offers a similar feature called Claude Cowork, which had been tried by at least 600,000 organizations by May. OpenAI believes its capabilities have now caught up, and it's integrating ways to automate computer tasks into ChatGPT. Training for these models included specific data, like frame-by-frame screenshots, to improve their ability to handle various tasks. OpenAI also used datasets where humans demonstrated how to complete tasks.
