OpenAI's ChatGPT Lockdown Mode: Enhanced Security

OpenAI has announced a new ChatGPT feature called Lockdown Mode. This mode aims to protect users from prompt injection attacks, which are a form of AI-centric spamming or hacking. Prompt injection attacks can allow attackers to steal data or even attempt to take control of a user's life by embedding malicious instructions in content given to an AI. Lockdown Mode creates a "pared-down" experience, disabling features that could expose users to these attacks. For example, in Lockdown Mode, ChatGPT cannot browse the web, display images in responses, do "Deep Research," function as an agent, network with the Canvas code generator, or download files. OpenAI states this mode is for individuals and organizations handling sensitive data who need stricter protection from data exfiltration risks. This feature helps users manage potential data theft risks associated with AI chatbots.
