OpenAI's ChatGPT Lockdown Mode: Enhanced Security, Limited Web

OpenAI has introduced a new security feature for ChatGPT called Lockdown Mode. This mode aims to protect user data from prompt injection attacks. Here's the thing: Lockdown Mode limits ChatGPT's access to the web and external services. This reduces the risk of sensitive data being taken out. OpenAI states this feature is for people and organizations handling sensitive data who need stricter protection. What's interesting is that prompt injection is a growing problem where attackers trick AI chatbots into revealing private information. Lockdown Mode prevents the final stage of these attacks by limiting outbound network requests that could transfer data. However, Lockdown Mode does not prevent prompt injections from appearing in content, meaning they could still affect response accuracy. When enabled, it restricts live web browsing to cached content only. Features like Deep Research, Agent Mode, and Canvas-generated code access to the internet are completely cut off. ChatGPT will also not display images or use image-generation features in this mode. The bottom line: This new mode offers enhanced security for sensitive data, but it comes with limitations on certain ChatGPT functionalities.
