The company believes autonomous agents, which can manage calendars and book travel, will be more profitable than its current chatbot. One senior employee even stated, "Chat is dead." The changes, rolling out in the coming weeks, will enhance OpenAI's coding product, Codex. This product lets users write code and create software from simple instructions. OpenAI also plans to redesign ChatGPT's interface to guide users toward new tools, image generation, and applications from partners like Canva and Booking.com. The company expects its AI models to understand user intentions, eventually replacing traditional prompts. This shift is important because most Codex users are paying customers, while many ChatGPT users do not pay.
