OpenAI's desktop app for macOS now tracks every mouse click and keystroke. This new "Computer History" feature is designed to help ChatGPT automate tasks. It logs all digital activity, including application switches, for users on Pro and Enterprise tiers. This system replaces an older tool that used screenshots. Instead, it intercepts raw operating system input events through macOS accessibility features. OpenAI says this allows the AI to understand user workflow better. For example, ChatGPT can summarize a document you were just editing by scanning your activity timeline. Product and Engineering Manager Ari Weinstein confirmed the rollout. He states it helps ChatGPT learn from everything you do on your computer. This feature is opt-in, not enabled by default. It also automatically ignores incognito or private browsing tabs. Users can also blacklist specific applications. However, this raises significant privacy concerns. Granting a cloud-connected AI access to raw keystrokes could capture sensitive information like passwords or financial data. This is why understanding its privacy implications is crucial for users.
