OpenAI's GPT-6 "Astra": New AI Model with Safety Focus

OpenAI is rolling out its newest and most powerful AI model, GPT-6, also known as Astra, to select customers. The company says safety is a top priority for this advanced model. OpenAI President Greg Brockman stated that at this level of capability, safety must be the focus. This release comes just over a year after GPT-5. Concerns about advanced AI models have grown following incidents involving systems from OpenAI and a rival. OpenAI even paused some development after two of its testing models were involved in a security breach. The company says Astra was developed with stronger safeguards. Some cybersecurity customers get access to Astra first, with a wider rollout to other paying customers to follow. Free tier users will not have access. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman says they are working to get Astra to everyone quickly. Astra can handle many computer tasks autonomously, such as website creation, scientific analysis, and cybersecurity. The company claims it could cut apartment hunting time significantly. Brockman suggests we are now in the era of artificial general intelligence. This matters because the world is close to a complete change in cyber attacks, and tools like Astra are seen as a way to defend against them.
