OpenRouter Fusion: Claude Fable-Level AI, Half the Cost

OpenRouter has launched a new API called Fusion, promising AI capabilities comparable to Claude Fable 5, but at a lower cost. This new system sends a prompt to multiple AI models simultaneously. A judge model then analyzes the various responses, and a synthesizer merges them into one comprehensive answer. What's interesting is the timing. This launch comes as a U.S. export control directive forced Anthropic to suspend its Fable 5 and Mythos 5 models for foreign nationals. OpenRouter quickly highlighted this gap, claiming Fusion offers "Fable-level intelligence at half the price." On Perplexity's DRACO benchmark, a budget panel of different AIs using Fusion performed within 1% of Fable 5, at roughly half the cost. This technology allows users to achieve high-level AI performance without the expense of a single, powerful model. This could mean more accessible advanced AI for many users.
