Reddit Tops ChatGPT Beauty Product Recommendations

Reddit is the top source for beauty product recommendations from ChatGPT. It outranks all retailers and editorial outlets combined. This comes from a new citation analysis by Novi, a product data platform. What's interesting is that nearly three-quarters of consumers now use AI search to research products before buying. The analysis looked at 10.7 million citations generated by ChatGPT for beauty product queries. Five sources drove a third of all recommendations. Reddit ranked first by a significant margin. Who What Wear was second, and Wikipedia placed third. Sephora.com and Allure rounded out the top five. This concentration means if a beauty brand isn't on these top five sites, it's largely absent from ChatGPT's recommendations. Most of the over 98,000 websites in the dataset had negligible influence. Kimberly Shenk, CEO of Novi, states that AI models use both product data and trust signals. Products with verified trust signals are presented to shoppers more often. This means beauty brands should focus on well-structured data and verified trust signals for AI visibility. This matters because it shows how consumer product research is changing with AI.
