Sam Altman Biopic: Amazon Drops OpenAI Film, Neon Acquires

Neon has acquired the worldwide distribution rights for "Artificial," a biopic about OpenAI CEO Sam Altman. This film, directed by Luca Guadagnino, was previously dropped by Amazon MGM Studios. What's interesting is that Amazon MGM stated the film would be better served by a different studio, without mentioning its own strategic partnership and $50 billion investment deal with OpenAI. The film features Andrew Garfield as Altman, Ike Barinholtz as Elon Musk, and Yura Borisov as Ilya Sutskever. It was extensively test screened and in the final stages of postproduction. Studio executives at the CAA screenings were reportedly told that "Bezos wasn't going to release it." This situation highlights a growing concern in Hollywood, where creative projects might face interference from big tech companies with financial interests. The bottom line is that the intersection of technology, finance, and entertainment is creating new challenges for filmmakers.
