He posted on X that he was equally amazed by his older child putting two words together and by GPT-5.6 discovering new math. GPT-5.6 Sol is described as the most capable model, Terra is for everyday use, and Luna focuses on faster performance at a lower cost. These new models also feature stronger safety measures. However, GPT-5.6 is not yet publicly available. It is currently in a limited preview with a small group of trusted partners. Altman explained on X that this delay was at the request of the US government. He said OpenAI is working with the government to achieve general availability as quickly as possible. The company aims for broader access for developers, businesses, and users once the review process is complete. This situation shows the ongoing balance between AI innovation and regulatory oversight.
