A popular online saga about OpenAI CEO Sam Altman messaging a comedian on Grindr is completely fake. OpenAI confirms they have had no interaction with the comedian, Jake Schroeder. Schroeder started the story on August 5th, posting screenshots on Instagram of a man claiming to be Altman. The supposed exchange showed Altman trying to hook up because he was "lonely and horny." Schroeder then claimed OpenAI's "legal team" contacted him, offering compensation to remove the screenshots. He even posted about a Zoom meeting and an offer of "$500 and a branded crew neck." These posts gained significant traction online, with thousands of likes and comments. However, an OpenAI spokesperson has clarified that the posts are fabricated. This highlights the growing challenge of distinguishing real from fake content online, especially with the rise of AI technology.
