Samsung, SK hynix Invest in Anthropic: AI Agent Ecosystem

Samsung Electronics and SK hynix have invested in Anthropic, a U.S. AI company that developed the generative AI model "Claude." This move strengthens the global AI network of Korea’s memory semiconductor sector. Anthropic recently announced it raised $65 billion in its Series H funding round. Its post-investment valuation is now $965 billion, a surge of more than 2.5 times since last February. This valuation also surpasses rival OpenAI's $852 billion from March. Anthropic's annualized revenue also exceeded $47 billion this month, increasing more than five times compared to last year. Samsung Electronics and SK hynix participated in this funding round as "strategic infrastructure partners." This investment expands Korea's memory sector into the AI agent ecosystem. Samsung and SK hynix are key infrastructure suppliers for Anthropic, as AI memory is essential for AI data centers and chip design. What's interesting is that Anthropic mentioned "logic chips" in its announcement. This raises the possibility that Samsung Electronics could collaborate beyond memory into the foundry domain, potentially manufacturing AI chips for Anthropic’s "Claude." This matters because it could lead to new partnerships in the rapidly evolving AI industry.
