Sapient Intelligence HRM-Text: Brain-Inspired AI Model

Singapore-based AI research company Sapient Intelligence has unveiled a new brain-inspired AI model called HRM-Text. This 1-billion-parameter reasoning language model challenges the current trend of building ever-larger language models. Here's the thing: HRM-Text uses a hierarchical recurrent architecture, mimicking how the human brain separates slow, deliberate reasoning from fast processing. This approach focuses on reasoning depth and computational efficiency, rather than just raw parameter counts. What's interesting is that this model moves beyond the standard Transformer architectures. It introduces a "slow controller" for abstract planning and a "fast worker" for detailed computations. This allows it to perform sophisticated multi-step reasoning internally, without needing massive model sizes. The company states HRM-Text achieved scores like 56.2% on MATH and 81.9% on ARC-Challenge. They also claim it can be trained in about one day using 16 GPUs for roughly $1,000. This could mean more efficient and accessible AI development in the future.
