Siri Overhaul: AI Features & ChatGPT-like Interface Coming

Apple is preparing a major overhaul for Siri, with a preview expected at the Worldwide Developers Conference on June 8. This update, potentially arriving in September with iOS 27, will bring significant AI enhancements to Siri. Users will have new ways to interact with Siri, including a "Search or Ask" interface accessible by swiping down from the top center of the screen. This allows for typed or spoken queries and can launch apps, check weather, or initiate chatbot conversations within a dedicated Siri app. This new Siri app is described as similar to ChatGPT or Gemini, offering conversation history and both text and voice interfaces. A notable feature in testing allows users to choose which AI answers their questions, with options like Siri, ChatGPT, and potentially other services like Google's Gemini and Anthropic's Claude. The Camera app will also get a dedicated Siri mode for analyzing images with third-party AI or Google reverse image search. Additionally, the Photos app is gaining AI editing tools called Reframe and Extend. For writing, a systemwide grammar checker and a natural language version of the Shortcuts app are coming, allowing users to describe desired automations. This is considered the biggest Siri update since its 2011 launch, aiming to bridge the gap with competitors.
