SK Shieldus' Kim Byeong-hyeon Wins AI Hacking Contest

SK Shieldus's Kim Byeong-hyeon, a senior researcher in its EQST white-hat hacker group, has won first place at the global AI red team hacking competition, Judgement Day. The contest evaluated attack techniques designed to make AI agents perform prohibited actions or ignore safety measures. The competition featured eight scenarios, including emergency patient triage errors and distorted dam water-level assessments. Kim achieved the top score by disrupting AI judgment using a multimodal prompt injection attack. This attack method utilizes various input formats like images, audio, and video. Two other EQST members, Ma Jun-young and Kim Shin-woo, also placed in the top seven. Kim Byeong-mu, head of SK Shieldus's cyber security division, states that AI security is now an essential capability as generative AI spreads. The company plans to use these verified AI red team capabilities to help customers use AI safely. This shows the growing importance of securing AI systems against sophisticated attacks.
