Synopsys, AMD, Microsoft: Agentic AI for Chip Design

Synopsys is expanding its collaboration with AMD and Microsoft to advance agentic AI in chip design. This partnership aims to accelerate chip development and reduce manual design tasks. New capabilities are available for evaluation through Microsoft Discovery, Microsoft's platform for scientific research. The collaboration combines large-scale reasoning, domain expertise, and cloud-scale compute to speed up the development of AI infrastructure silicon. Two new electronic design automation workflows automate parts of chip development, from design specification to debugging. Initial testing of the autonomous debug closure workflow showed up to a 40% reduction in debug cycle time. These workflows orchestrate multiple AI agents for specialized design tasks. AMD is using this technology in its semiconductor design efforts. Microsoft provides the cloud infrastructure through Microsoft Discovery for evaluating and deploying these AI-driven workflows. This collaboration helps engineering teams reduce manual effort and accelerate time to silicon.
