Taiwan Hit by 'Abnormal' AI Cyberattack: First-of-a-Kind Breach

Taiwan reports detecting an "abnormal" AI-assisted cyber-attack on government agencies last month. This attack, which began on July 20th, is described as a "first-of-a-kind breach." What's interesting is that an Israeli AI company, Dream, detected the intrusion. They say attackers used open-source AI agents to build an autonomous hacking tool. This tool compromised at least 85 government user accounts, extracting over 2,500 personnel records. The attack then expanded to Taiwan’s nuclear safety agency and at least seven energy companies. The Ministry of Digital Affairs says the investigation showed clear characteristics of an "overseas source." This new type of threat led the government to establish protective guidelines and strengthen system monitoring. This incident highlights the evolving nature of cyber warfare and the increasing role of AI in these attacks.
