Thomson Reuters, Free Law Project Integrate Claude AI

Two legal research providers are now integrating with Anthropic's Claude AI assistant. Thomson Reuters and Free Law Project's CourtListener are both connecting their legal databases directly to Claude. This allows the AI assistant to tap into external data sources in real time. Both integrations use the Model Context Protocol, or MCP, an open standard developed by Anthropic. This means AI models can query live databases and retrieve current documents, rather than relying only on their training data. Thomson Reuters is connecting Claude to its CoCounsel Legal system, which draws on 1.9 billion Westlaw and Practical Law documents. This integration aims to provide "fiduciary-grade" AI for legal professionals. What's interesting is that these integrations help ground AI responses in live, authoritative data, which can dramatically improve their reliability. This matters because it could make AI-powered legal research more accurate and trustworthy for professionals.
