UK & Australia Pact: Fast-Moving AI Security Risks

The UK and Australia are deepening their cooperation on AI security and safety. Ministers will meet in Canberra today to sign a new Memorandum of Understanding. This agreement brings together the UK AI Security Institute and the Australian Safety Institute. They will track developments in frontier AI, including its use in cyber-attacks and its potential for stronger defenses. Both countries will share insights, research emerging risks, and develop international best practices for testing AI systems. The partnership also allows for staff exchanges between the institutes, enhancing daily collaboration. This builds on existing strong ties between the two nations, extending cooperation into the AI era. UK AI Minister Kanishka Narayan will sign the agreement with Australia's Assistant Minister for Science, Technology and the Digital Economy, Dr. Andrew Charlton. This collaboration aims to manage AI risks while ensuring the technology drives growth and improves lives.
