US AI Price War: OpenAI & Google Cut Model Costs

US AI companies are cutting prices on their large AI models as competition heats up. OpenAI announced on August 21st that it's reducing the benchmark price of GPT-5.6 Sol, a frontier AI model for developers, by over 20%. This discount is effective immediately and will last for three months. What's interesting is that OpenAI also cut prices last month for other models, dropping mid-tier models by 20% and lower-cost models by 80%. Not to be outdone, Google, owned by Alphabet, recently launched Gemini 3.7 Flash and cut its price by about half. Some US media suggest that pricing competition is getting fierce, partly due to strategies from Chinese AI companies. This trend could make advanced AI more accessible for developers and businesses.
