US Bans Anthropic's Mythos & Fable AI for Foreigners

The US government instructed Anthropic to block access to its AI models, Mythos 5 and Fable 5, for all foreigners. This includes Anthropic's own employees. The letter from US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick to Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei has now surfaced online. It states Anthropic cannot provide these two models to foreign nationals anywhere without a license from the US Commerce Department. This applies even if a foreign national is in the US or works for Anthropic. The US warned of criminal and civil penalties if Anthropic did not comply. Anthropic ultimately decided to stop access to both models for all users, not just non-US citizens. This marks the most significant intervention by the US government in an AI venture's operations to date. This action highlights growing government control over advanced AI technology.
