US Blocks Foreign Access to Anthropic AI Models

The U.S. has blocked foreign access to Anthropic's newest AI models, Fable 5 and Mythos 5, due to national security concerns. Washington ordered Anthropic to prevent all foreign nationals, including its own foreign-born employees, from accessing these top-tier systems. The directive arrived at 5:21 PM Eastern time on Friday. As a result, Anthropic must disable Fable 5 and Mythos 5 for all its customers to ensure compliance. Access to other Anthropic models will not be affected. Anthropic released Fable 5 and Mythos 5 on Tuesday, calling them its most powerful models yet. Fable 5 was released to the public with additional safety restrictions, while Mythos 5 was for trusted partners only. Anthropic had previously warned that Fable 5 could be misused to cause serious damage without its safeguards. This action highlights ongoing concerns about AI security.
