Vigyanlabs FEMTO: India's Waterless AI Platform

Mysuru-based Vigyanlabs has launched FEMTO, India's sovereign AI infrastructure platform. This new system delivers high-density AI compute using air cooling, which means no water is needed for operation. Here's the thing: FEMTO cuts energy consumption by 50 percent and its highest-performance setup uses less than 6 kilowatts. This makes air cooling practical even for demanding AI tasks, unlike typical data centers that can use millions of liters of water annually. What's interesting is that over 50 percent of FEMTO's content is indigenous, with its entire software stack developed in India. The technology is protected by patents in both India and the US. FEMTO is a fully integrated AI appliance, combining AI, compute, storage, and power management. It supports a range of open AI models like Llama and Mistral. One of its first deployments is in India's first AI rural data center in Gundlupet. The bottom line: this innovation aims to build sustainable and energy-efficient AI infrastructure for India and potentially the world.
