Payments giant Visa has embedded its payment network inside ChatGPT, allowing the chatbot to independently shop and complete transactions. This means AI agents can now not only recommend products but also complete purchases on a user's behalf. Here's the thing: Users will link their Visa cards to ChatGPT for shopping. OpenAI will provide the technology for AI agents to interact and initiate purchases, while Visa handles payment authorization and fraud monitoring. What's interesting is Visa's Chief Product and Strategy Officer, Jack Forestell, gave an example: a customer asks for wireless headphones under $150, and the chatbot finds and buys them. Visa says the feature will include guardrails like spending limits and required approval steps to protect consumers. The bottom line is this collaboration aims to make AI agents active participants in the economy, changing how people interact with online shopping.
