VMware Updates: AI Threat Protection & API Security

Broadcom has released significant security updates for VMware vDefend and VMware Avi Load Balancer. These updates aim to protect against threats from AI models. The vDefend Security Services Platform now includes an intrusion detection and prevention system, network traffic analysis, and network detection and response. This service, called Accelerated Advanced Threat Prevention with vDefend 1-2-3, works with the platform’s distributed firewall for better workload visibility. The distributed firewall throughput has increased by 129% to 22 gigabits per second on 25G network interface card servers. It also reached 75 gigabits per second on 100G network interface card servers, a 241% bump. A new vDefend and Avi Conversion Tool automatically converts existing firewall rules into native vDefend policies. VMware vDefend also received updates for on-premises malware prevention and comprehensive support in air-gapped environments. The vDefend platform can now run on a two-server cluster, potentially lowering infrastructure costs. What's interesting is the Avi Load Balancer now includes native API protection for virtual machines, vSphere Kubernetes Services, and AI-based workloads. This combines a web application firewall and API protection to shield vulnerable APIs.
