xAI's Monthly AI Models: Challenging OpenAI & Anthropic

Elon Musk's xAI plans to launch a new foundation AI model every month for the rest of the year. This aggressive roadmap aims to challenge rivals OpenAI and Anthropic. What's interesting is, these will be entirely new models, not just updates. The first in this series is Grok 4.5, which is already in private beta testing at Tesla and SpaceX. Musk states Grok 4.5 is built on a 1.5-trillion-parameter foundation model, internally called v9. He claims early evaluations show Grok 4.5 is close to, or possibly exceeds, Anthropic's Claude Opus models. Musk also mentions a larger 2-trillion-parameter model is already in training, expected to finish in late July for an August rollout. This accelerated schedule is partly due to engineers from Starlink and Starship. The bottom line is this move intensifies the competition in the AI race, with companies striving for faster release cycles and more capable models.
