AI Agents: New Identity Security Challenge for Orgs

AI agents are now acting as identities within organizations, but most companies lack security and governance models for them. This creates a significant new security challenge. Here's the thing: For years, security focused on controlling human and service account identities. But AI agents, initially seen as productivity tools, are now connecting to critical business services like Salesforce and production databases. They retrieve information, trigger workflows, and even deploy code. What's interesting is that 82% of organizations found at least one AI agent created without security team knowledge in the past year. Forty-one percent found this happening multiple times. These agents often have broad access and low visibility, making them difficult to inventory and govern. The bottom line: Traditional identity and access management controls are being outpaced by the machine speed at which AI agents create and use identities. This means organizations face a new, complex security risk that demands immediate attention.
