Anthropic CEO: Tax AI Firms for Universal Income

Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei suggests governments tax AI companies to fund a universal basic income. This idea aims to address the potential impact of AI on the job market. Amodei outlined his views in a five-point blog post. He believes regulatory and tax solutions are needed to cushion AI's disruption. A universal basic income, funded by taxing "relevant companies" or raising the capital gains tax, might be necessary if AI causes widespread job displacement. What's interesting is Amodei also called for retention tax incentives to encourage employers not to lay off workers. He also supports wage insurance policies for those forced into lower-paying jobs. He previously suggested AI could eliminate half of entry-level white-collar jobs within five years.
