Anthropic Extends Fable Access Amid OpenAI Sol Release

Anthropic is extending access to Claude Fable 5 for its subscribers for the second time this week. This move appears to be a response to OpenAI's recent launch of its new ChatGPT model. Anthropic announced on X, via email, and on its support page that Fable 5 will be available at no extra cost through July 19. This follows a one-week promotion starting July 7, which allowed Claude users to utilize up to 50% of their weekly subscription limits on Fable. Even after exhausting expanded access, users can still use Fable by purchasing usage credits. What's interesting is that this extension comes just three days after OpenAI launched GPT-5.6, featuring its flagship model Sol. OpenAI claims Sol achieves "state-of-the-art" results in areas like coding and cybersecurity, outperforming previous models at a lower cost. OpenAI also stated that Sol outperformed Anthropic's Fable in coding tasks. The bottom line is that the competition in AI model development continues to intensify, directly impacting the features and access users receive.
