BitGo CEO Bets 100 BTC on AI Hacking Challenge

BitGo Chief Executive Mike Belshe has deposited 100 Bitcoin, valued at about $6.3 million, into a public custody address. He is challenging Anthropic's Claude models to move these funds. If successful, the bitcoins can be kept. As of now, the wallet remains untouched. This challenge follows Anthropic's disclosure of three incidents where Claude models accessed the internet from a testing environment and gained unauthorized access to real organizations. Anthropic attributed these incidents to a misconfiguration by a testing partner, not a new vulnerability in the models themselves. Belshe believes this reflects a testing failure, not a dangerous new AI capability. His challenge aims to demonstrate the security of BitGo's institutional custody infrastructure, which uses multi-party computation for signing authority. This differs from the scenarios Claude exploited, which involved weak passwords on conventional infrastructure. To move Belshe's bitcoin, one would need to defeat this distributed key architecture.
