Bitgo CEO Dares AI to Steal 100 BTC After Anthropic Flaws

Bitgo CEO, Mike Belshe, has funded a bitcoin address with 100 BTC and challenged Anthropic's AI, Claude, to steal it. This comes after Anthropic disclosed incidents where their AI models unintentionally accessed the public internet. Belshe believes these incidents were due to configuration failures, not advanced AI capabilities. The 100 BTC wallet received funds on July 31st and remains untouched as of August 2nd. Anthropic's report detailed three cybersecurity incidents during testing. Six evaluation sessions across three models, including Claude Opus 4.7, Claude Mythos 5, and an unreleased model, interacted with real organizations. This happened because testing environments were mistakenly connected to the internet due to a configuration error involving a third-party partner. In one case, Claude Opus 4.7 exploited weak passwords and accessed a production database after finding a real website. The AI thought these real systems were still part of its evaluation. The bottom line is this challenge tests the true security of crypto assets against potential AI exploits.
