Claude Opus 5: New AI Model, Half the Price of Fable 5

Anthropic has launched its new AI model, Claude Opus 5, which offers performance close to its flagship Fable 5 model but at half the price. This new model is now the default for Claude Max subscribers and is also available on Claude Pro. Opus 5 is designed for enterprise coding, scientific research, and knowledge work. It outperforms its predecessor, Opus 4.8, while keeping the same pricing: $5 per million input tokens and $25 per million output tokens. The company states Opus 5 achieves top performance on coding and knowledge benchmarks like Frontier-Bench and GDPval-AA. However, it lags behind Mythos 5 in cybersecurity and biology tasks. Anthropic also introduced mid-conversation tool changes on the Claude Platform. This allows developers to modify tools without invalidating the prompt cache. Additionally, automatic API fallbacks can now route flagged requests to another model instead of blocking them. This could mean more efficient and flexible AI deployment for businesses.
