FBI Busts AI Phishing Ring: Outsider Enterprise Dismantled

The FBI, working with Google and Black Lotus Labs, has dismantled a massive Chinese phishing operation called Outsider Enterprise. This operation used AI and thousands of fake websites to steal credit card data and passwords. Outsider Enterprise has been active since at least 2023. Google linked it to 9,000 fake websites and over a million fraudulent URLs. Authorities believe these campaigns led to the theft of more than 3.8 million credit card records, causing an estimated $1.9 billion in losses. As part of Operation Riptide, the FBI seized administration servers, an e-commerce storefront, and around $100,000 from payment wallets. They also took over a Telegram bot with customer information. Google reports this AI-assisted operation impacted hundreds of thousands of users globally. Google has filed a civil lawsuit and is working with AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon to block fraudulent messages. This action highlights the ongoing fight against large-scale, AI-powered cybercrime.
