This development suggests open-source Chinese models are surpassing some closed US models. Another Chinese AI model, GLM-5.2 from Zhipu, is already used globally by developers. It performs almost as well as top US models but at a lower price. The Kimi K3 model, while the most expensive Chinese AI model to date, is still half the price of OpenAI’s GPT-5.6 Sol.
