Kimi K3 Unveiled: Moonshot AI's Open-Weight Multimodal AI

Moonshot AI's Yang Zhilin has unveiled Kimi K3, a new multimodal AI model, at the GTC 2026 conference. This model has 2.8 trillion parameters and a 1 million token context window. What's interesting is Kimi K3 is an open-weight model, allowing developers to download and run it themselves. This differentiates it from largely closed models offered by competitors. Beyond language, Kimi K3 also includes vision processing, enabling document analysis and visual reasoning. The company has set API access at $3 per million input tokens and $15 per million output tokens. Moonshot AI, founded in March 2023 by Yang Zhilin, recently closed a $2 billion funding round in May 2026, pushing its valuation past $20 billion.
