Kimi K3 vs. Fable 5: Open-Source AI's Performance & Price

Kimi has launched its most powerful model to date, Kimi K3. This model will be fully open-sourced on July 27th. What's interesting is that Kimi K3 has already taken first place on Arena.ai's front-end capability leaderboard. It surpassed Fable 5 and GPT 5.6 Sol. However, Kimi's team states K3's overall performance still lags behind Claude Fable 5 and GPT-5.6 Sol, but outperforms every other model. Kimi's pricing is 20 yuan per million input tokens and 100 yuan per million output tokens. This puts it at the level of GPT5.6 terra. The release was also strategically timed before the World Artificial Intelligence Conference. User demos show Kimi K3 can create complex visual scenes and functional app interfaces. This development could significantly change the global AI landscape, especially for open-source models.
