Nvidia & OpenAI: $250B Data Center Deal in Ohio?

Nvidia is reportedly in talks to provide about $250 billion in financing for OpenAI. This funding would support a massive data center project. The Wall Street Journal reports that these guarantees from Nvidia would help OpenAI lease a 10-gigawatt project in southern Ohio. SoftBank's energy subsidiary is developing this project. The power for this site is controlled by the U.S. government and separately funded by Japan. U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick is involved in deciding who gets access to this power. OpenAI has been in advanced talks for several weeks to lease the site. Other companies like Anthropic, Microsoft, and Google have also spoken to Lutnick. This news shows significant investment and competition in the data center space.
