Otak AI Sarawak: Homegrown AI Development & Talent Hub

Sarawak is launching "Otak AI Sarawak" to develop its own artificial intelligence models, shifting focus from AI adoption to homegrown AI development. The main goal is to create AI models designed and built by Sarawakian talent. This initiative comes through a collaboration between Tabung Ekonomi Gagasan Anak Sarawak, or TEGAS, and the Sarawak Artificial Intelligence Centre. TEGAS will provide training and build an ecosystem to equip local talent with the necessary skills. The program aims to increase AI awareness, develop practical skills through the AI Builders Club, and establish TEGAS as an AI Talent Hub for knowledge-sharing. The AI Talent Hub will also attract international experts for technology transfer and mentorship. Additionally, TEGAS will organize a Bootcamp to train participants in developing and commercializing AI solutions. This effort aims to strengthen Sarawak’s AI talent pipeline and create an ecosystem for local AI solutions. This is important because it could lead to new career opportunities, especially in cybersecurity.
