Razorpay Vulcan: India's First AI Payments Model Launches

Razorpay is launching Vulcan, India’s first AI payments foundation model, on August 18, 2026. This transformer-based AI model is built specifically for payments. Here's the thing: Vulcan has been trained on approximately 3 trillion data points from 4 billion payments. It learns from about 3,000 signals per transaction. Early components of Vulcan are already active on Razorpay’s network. Customers like Blinkit, Bachatt, and redBus are using this technology. What's interesting is the impact: the system has improved payment success rates by 8-10%. It has also detected and stopped eight times more international card fraud. Vulcan identified five times more fraudulent or disputed transactions without increasing alerts. The model helps 40% more shoppers see their preferred UPI app on Razorpay Magic Checkout, enabling 1-2 lakh additional purchases monthly. Vulcan is designed to handle payment routing, fraud detection, risk assessment, and checkout personalization. It routes payments in real-time for success and detects fraud across merchants. The bottom line: this new AI aims to make digital payments more reliable for users across India.
