Samsung & OpenAI Meet: AI, Chips & Future Tech Discussed

Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman recently met at OpenAI's headquarters in San Francisco. They discussed cooperation in artificial intelligence and semiconductors. OpenAI stated the meeting occurred on the morning of the 25th local time. While specific details were not disclosed, discussions likely included expanding cooperation in AI infrastructure, such as high-bandwidth memory, DRAM, and advanced foundry services. There's also speculation about an AI transformation plan for Samsung Electronics, applying generative AI across its operations. Samsung Electronics is a major global customer of OpenAI, having decided to introduce ChatGPT and the AI coding tool Codex to all employees. The two companies signed a strategic partnership last October to expand advanced memory semiconductor production and build next-generation AI infrastructure. OpenAI considers its framework with the South Korean government, Samsung Electronics, and SK Hynix its first country-level strategic partnership in the Asia-Pacific region. This collaboration could influence the future development and application of AI technology.
