US Frees OpenAI GPT 5.6 & Anthropic Claude Fable 5 AI

The US government has freed OpenAI's GPT 5.6 and Anthropic's Claude Fable 5 AI models for global competition. Both frontier AI models can now be released and priced individually. Anthropic's Fable 5 was approved after a previous halt by the US government. OpenAI's GPT 5.6, which was initially restricted due to cybersecurity concerns, is now also unshackled for wide global release this Thursday. The Trump administration gave OpenAI the green light for this broad launch. OpenAI's flagship model Sol, along with lower tiers Terra and Luna, will launch publicly. This decision came after additional testing and meetings between OpenAI and government officials. The Center for AI Standards and Innovation conducted the testing. This matters because it shows how governments and advanced AI companies are negotiating access to powerful technologies in real-time.
